Hilo’s Magical Fourth of July: Family Memories Under the Stars

Under the Hawaiian sky, so bright and blue,
We’d drive to Bayfront, a family crew,
In our Jeep Cherokee, with laughter and cheer,
As the Fourth of July drew ever near.

Fried chicken and musubi piled high,
A picnic feast under the stars in the sky,
My brother, my sister, and I sitting tight,
On the tailgate, our hearts filled with delight.

With each burst of color, our eyes opened wide,
Fireworks exploded in joyful pride,
The sounds of the pops made our spirits soar,
As we watched the night light up more and more.

Little kids in awe, we never quite knew,
The meaning of freedom, the red, white, and blue,
But the magic was real in those moments we’d share,
In Hilo’s embrace, with love in the air.

Year after year, the tradition remained,
Those summer nights where true joy was gained,
In the heart of Hawaii, under stars shining bright,
The Fourth of July felt perfectly right.

Now grown, I look back on those days filled with glee,
The laughter, the fireworks, and the taste of the sea,
Though I’ve learned of the meaning, it’s clear as can be,
Those memories of childhood still spark joy in me.
