The Struggle to Find My Artistic Style: A Journey of Exploration

As an artist, one thing I know for sure: my toolbox is packed with materials that spark my creativity! I love working with acrylics, modeling paste, and plaster—whatever gives me that rich depth and texture. But here’s the kicker: despite all that inspiration, I’m still searching for a consistent artistic style. I want it to feel like “me.”

It seems like so many artists have that signature look, a style that shines through in every piece they create. But for me? It often feels like trying to catch a slippery fish. Just when I think I’ve nailed it, my artistic vibe changes! I draw inspiration from all sorts of things, and I try to channel that into my work. The problem is, it often results in pieces that don’t quite look like they belong to the same artist.

So, I find myself wondering: how do other artists manage to create a cohesive style? Is it best to settle on a specific look and define some guidelines for what my art should be? Or should I lean into being a free spirit, creating what resonates in the moment?

As I ponder this, I realize both paths have their strengths. Sticking to a defined style can help me build recognition and connect with an audience that appreciates my vision. It can also provide a sense of direction when I’m feeling lost. On the other hand, letting myself create freely can lead to exciting new discoveries and personal growth, allowing me to express where I’m at in my life.

Maybe my artistic style doesn’t have to fit into just one box. Perhaps it can be something that shifts and grows with me—as I grow as an artist! It’s about finding a common thread that ties all my work together, something that speaks to who I am and what I love.

To all the fellow artists out there facing the same struggle, my advice is to embrace the journey! Let your creativity flow in all kinds of directions until you find a signature style that feels right for you. Remember, art is a constant evolution. Each piece you create contributes to your development, reflecting the layers of your experiences.

As I continue searching for my artistic voice, I invite you to celebrate the struggle. Let’s appreciate the exploration and beauty of becoming! How do you find your style amidst all the changes in your creative landscape? I’d love to hear your thoughts! #ArtJourney #FindingMyStyle #CreativityUnleashed

Free spirit all the way. If your work is meant to be cohesive you will see patterns emerge that will pull it all together. In the meantime…just create. Have fun, don’t try to put it in a box. The box will come if it is meant to.

Totally agree! I love that idea. Just creating without trying to fit it into a box sounds so freeing. I’ll keep having fun and let things fall into place. Thanks for the good vibes!

I cannot draw or paint to save my life but I feel you should do what calls out to you? I don’t know, but as an artist is it a requirement that your work has to be cohesive or have continuity?

I suppose there’s no need to strictly follow the “rules“, but it does get me thinking about how I can improve my coherence.
